New Jersey City University freshman goalkeeper Jonathon Brun, of Iselin (JFK Memorial High School), recorded a shutout in his first collegiate start as the No. 18-ranked Gothic Knights blanked John Jay College, 5-0, in a nonconference contest at Riverbank State Park.
For anyone interested in becoming a high school basketball official in Middlesex County, the Central East Jersey Basketball Officials organization has announced that registration has begun for both men and women ages 18 and over. Norman Loney defeated Frank Helstowski; Jeff Kaufman defeated Peter Zhong; John Lay III defeated Joe Horniacek; Tom Pellicane defeated Bob Sobieski; Jeff Byrnes defeated Bob Tilley; Antonio Toto defeated Carmine Nesta; and John Lay Jr. and Grant Herring both advanced with a bye.
In the A Flight, George Martis defeated Ron Becker; Frank Sestito defeated Herman Suppe; Jim Castucci defeated Jeff Gulics; Keith Chalecki defeated Rudy Demilio; Al Portano defeated Anthony Nesta; Wes Traskiewicz defeated Ciro Boccio, and Ray Marko and Mike Weiss received byes.
Garden State Baseball League, located in Woodbridge, is still accepting team registration for teams 13U through men's college into its Fall Ball Program. GSBL will kick off the fall season with games on Sept 17 and will play doubleheaders on Sundays, mostly in the Woodbridge area, with limited travel, until the end of October (weather permitting). Team registration into GSBL's Fall Ball will automatically give you free entry into our Fall Wood Bat Tournament of Champions ($290 value).
