      Friends of Dismal Swamp to meet Jan. 24

      The Friends of the Dismal Swamp will hold its first meeting of the year on Jan. 24 from7 to 9 p.m. at theMinnie B. Veale Community Center, 1070 GroveAve., Edison.

      Edison Wetlands Association invites the public to attend the meeting on the preservation of the 660-acre Dismal Swamp Conservation Area, which is the largest remaining natural habitat in northern Middlesex County. The group will gather ideas for new hiking and horseback trails and improving public access. Among the topics for discussion are upcoming destructive development projects and threats from illegal dumping, hunting and off-road vehicles.
