Police note rash of purse snatching
EDISON — Police are warning people staying at hotels to keep their belongings on them, after another purse theft was reported at a hotel in the township.
“This has been an ongoing problem we have had,” said police Lt. Sal Filannino.
A Louis Vuitton purse was reported stolen at the Hilton Garden Inn, in the Raritan Center, at 7:33 a.m. July 30, police said. The only description of the suspect that was given was that he was a black male. The value of the purse and the contents inside is $8,800.
Police have received several similar incidents over the past few months at different hotels in the area. Purse thefts have also occurred recently at other commercial locations in town. On July 29, a purse was reported stolen from the Cheesecake Factory on Menlo Park Drive. The purse with all of its contents was valued at $870. And on July 30, a purse was reported stolen from a grocery cart in the parking lot of the ShopRite on Route 1. The purse with all of its contents was valued at $160.
